Key takeaways

  • One main Organization entity is defined, and every page's markup links back to it.
  • Markup is written per template in JSON-LD, then tested with the Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator.
  • Only content that is true and visible on the page is marked up, since misleading markup can lead to a manual action.
01

What Entities Are, and Why AI Search Cares

An entity is a distinct thing that can be identified: a company, a person, a product, a place. Google keeps a large database of entities and how they relate, called the Knowledge Graph. It powers knowledge panels and helps Google tell apart two companies with similar names.

AI tools face the same problem. When a model reads a brand name that several companies share, it needs to know which one is meant. If your name, address, founders, and services differ between your site, your listings, and articles about you, the model may mix you up with someone else or skip you. Semantic SEO aims to remove that doubt.

Our Semantic SEO Services

The work combines markup on your site with cleanup off your site.

  • Entity Review

We check how Google, Bing, and AI tools describe you today, including any knowledge panel, and list the errors and gaps.

  • Structured Data

We write JSON-LD markup using schema.org types such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, Service, Person, and Article.

  • Profile Alignment

We use sameAs links to connect your site to your official profiles, and we fix mismatched details on those profiles.

  • About and Author Pages

We strengthen pages that explain who runs the company and who writes your content, with real credentials.

  • Topic Coverage and Internal Links

We map the topics you should own and link related pages so the relationships are clear to crawlers.

  • Validation

We test markup with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator, then watch Search Console for errors.

03

How the Schema Work Gets Done

Step 1: We review your current markup, which is often duplicated by plugins or out of date. Step 2: We define one main Organization entity and link every page's markup back to it. Step 3: We write markup per template, so product, location, and article pages each carry the right types.

Step 4: Your developer adds it to the templates, or we do it through your CMS. On WordPress that may mean adjusting Yoast or Rank Math settings instead of adding more code. Step 5: We validate, fix errors, and recheck after site changes. For large page sets, this ties into our programmatic SEO builds.

04

What Structured Data Can and Cannot Do

Markup helps machines understand your pages. It does not force any feature to appear. Google decides when to show rich results, and it has cut back several over time. Since 2023, FAQ rich results show only for well-known government and health sites, and how-to rich results are gone.

Google also requires markup to match what users can see on the page. Marking up hidden or misleading content can lead to a manual action. So we only mark up what is true and visible. We will not promise a knowledge panel, a rich result, or any AI mention.

05

Pricing for Entity and Schema Work

A one-time entity review and markup plan gets a fixed quote in writing. Ongoing work, such as new templates, profile cleanup, and monitoring, runs as a monthly plan, with plans starting at $1,000 a month. Cost depends on the number of page templates, locations, and outside profiles to fix.

If you are unsure where to start, an AI SEO audit covers entity signals along with technical and content issues. This service is part of our AI SEO services.

FAQ

Entity & Schema Optimization Questions, Answered

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Ask us anything else on the free audit call.

No, but it is a sign Google understands your brand as an entity. Panels are created by Google, not requested. Consistent facts and outside coverage make one more likely, but no one can promise it.

We will not write a Wikipedia article for you, because its rules discourage paid editing without disclosure and require independent notability. We can review whether a Wikidata entry is appropriate and accurate. The bigger wins are usually your own site and listings.

For most businesses, Organization or LocalBusiness comes first, then Product or Service, then Article and Person for content. The right mix depends on what your pages actually contain.

Regular SEO often starts with keywords. Semantic SEO starts with the things your business is about and how they relate. In practice we do both, since keywords still show how people search.

Google has said structured data is not a direct ranking factor. It helps search engines understand and display your content. That can improve how you appear, even when rank does not change.
