Packaging & Label Design Agency

Packaging design agencies differ most in how far they take a project, so here is how far we take ours. We design product packaging and labels on your printer's actual dielines and lay out the required label information with you. Then we deliver files that are ready to print, plus mockups for retail buyers and online listings.

Key takeaways

  • Design starts from your printer's or co-packer's dieline, material, print method and any color limits.
  • Files carry bleed, safe zones, fold lines and separate layers for varnish, foil and white ink where needed.
  • Required label panels are laid out to fit the design, and your regulatory adviser or attorney confirms the content before print.
01

Packaging and Labels We Design

We work on single products and on full lines with dozens of variants.

  • Folding Cartons and Boxes

Retail boxes, sleeves and gift packaging, designed flat on the dieline and checked in 3D mockups.

  • Bags and Pouches

Stand-up pouches, coffee bags and snack bags, with room for valves, zippers and seals.

  • Labels for Bottles, Jars and Cans

Label design for front and back labels, full wraps and neck tags on glass, plastic and aluminum. Dispensaries and cannabis product brands can see our cannabis branding page.

  • Shipping and Unboxing

Mailer boxes, inserts, tissue and stickers for brands that sell direct to customers.

  • Packaging Systems

A family look for a whole product line, with color coding for flavors, scents or sizes.

02

Built on Your Printer's Specs

Many packaging problems show up at the press, not on the screen. Before we design, we ask for your printer's or co-packer's dieline, the material, the print method and any color limits. A digitally printed roll label can hold different detail than a flexo run.

We set bleed, safe zones and fold lines, plus separate layers for varnish, foil and white ink where needed. If you sell in retail stores, you will need UPC barcodes, which are licensed through GS1 US. We place the codes you license at a size scanners can read.

When your printer offers a physical proof, we review it with you before the full run. Colors on screen and on cardboard rarely match exactly.

03

Label Rules We Plan Around

Food, supplements, cosmetics and alcohol each have federal labeling rules. Snack and drink brands can also see our food branding page. The FDA sets requirements for most food and cosmetic labels, such as the product name, net quantity and ingredient list. Dietary supplements need a Supplement Facts panel. Most alcohol labels need approval from the TTB before the product can be sold across state lines.

State rules can add more. California's Proposition 65, for example, can require warning statements on some products sold there.

We lay out these panels so they are readable and fit the design. We are not a regulatory consultant, though. Your regulatory adviser, co-packer or attorney confirms the content before anything goes to print.

Our Packaging Design Service, Step by Step

Step 1: We start with a brief. We cover the product, price point, where it sells (grocery shelf, boutique, Amazon or your own site) and the competitors next to it.

Step 2: We review the shelf. We gather competitor packaging and look at how each product reads from a few feet away and as a small online thumbnail.

Step 3: We present the concepts set in your quote on 3D mockups. Step 4: You choose one, and we refine it and extend it across your product variants.

Step 5: We prepare final files, answer your printer's questions and review proofs. Your packaging designer stays on the project until the files are approved for press.

05

Comparing Packaging Design Companies

When you compare packaging design companies, ask to see printed work, not just renders. Ask who talks to the printer and who checks proofs. Ask whether regulatory panels are included or left to you.

A single label and a packaging system for a product line each get a fixed quote in writing. Cost depends on the number of products and structures, custom illustration, how complex the required panels are and how many printers are involved.

We will not promise retail placement or a sales lift. Buyers look at margin, demand and your sales plan as well as the box. Packaging works best when it matches the rest of your brand identity design. For listings that use your packaging, see our ecommerce marketing services. Packaging Design Questions, Answered

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Ask us anything else on the free audit call.

Usually your printer or packaging supplier provides it, since it depends on their equipment and stock sizes. If you need a new structure, we work with your supplier's structural team. We design on whatever dieline they approve.

Yes. Our label design service covers single labels and label systems for product lines. You get print-ready files and a template for adding new variants later.

No, we design and prepare files. We can recommend printers or work with the one you already use. Printing is billed by the printer directly to you.

Yes. Amazon packaging has to work as a small thumbnail and hold up in shipping. For listing images and A+ content, see our Amazon A+ content service.

It depends on how many products, structures and printers are involved. A single label costs much less than a full system for a product line. We send a written quote after reviewing your products and printer specs.
