Nonprofit Video Production & Editing

Our nonprofit video production service edits appeal videos, impact stories and event films for charities, foundations and community groups, from footage your staff and volunteers capture. Donors want to see what their gift does. Video can show the people, places and changes behind your mission. We plan each piece around your fundraising calendar and the channels your supporters already use.

Key takeaways

  • People on camera are told in plain language where the video will run, and that saying no will not affect their help.
  • For sensitive programs, your staff can film hands, silhouettes or voice-only interviews, and faces can be blurred.
  • Footage is captured during program season and the appeal is edited later, once the story is clear.

Videos Donors, Volunteers and Funders Respond To

Most nonprofits need a few core videos, then many short versions of each. We plan the set with you, so one filming session by your staff covers several uses. Common formats include:

  • Appeal Videos

One story and one clear ask, for year-end campaigns, GivingTuesday and emergency appeals.

  • Impact Stories

A participant, volunteer or staff member shows what changed because of your program.

  • Gala and Event Films

A short film played before the ask at your event, plus a recap for supporters who could not attend.

  • Grant and Annual Report Videos

Program updates for funders and board members, tied to the numbers you already report.

  • Volunteer and Thank-You Videos

Recruitment clips for volunteers and personal thank-you messages for donors.

02

Telling Hard Stories With Dignity and Consent

The people your programs serve may be going through a difficult time. They deserve to know where a video will run, who will see it and for how long. We give your staff plain-language wording to explain this before anyone films. It also makes clear that saying no will not affect the help they receive.

Everyone on camera signs a release. For minors, a parent or guardian signs, and we leave out full names, school names and anything that shows where a child lives. For sensitive programs, such as shelters or recovery services, we can guide your staff to film hands, silhouettes or voice-only interviews. We can also blur faces and locations in the edit.

We avoid footage that shows people only as victims. Strong nonprofit stories show progress and choice, not just need. If your organization is a HIPAA covered entity, such as a community clinic, patient stories also need a signed HIPAA authorization.

03

Planning Footage Around Your Giving Calendar

Year-end is the busiest giving season for many organizations, and GivingTuesday falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Your appeal video should be finished before those campaigns start, not during them.

The strongest footage often comes months earlier. Summer camps, food drives and after-school programs only look like themselves while they are running. Your staff film during program season with our shot list, and we edit the appeal later, once the story is clear.

We also map out spring galas, grant deadlines and board meetings. One well-planned round of filming can supply an appeal, an event film, a grant update and months of social clips.

04

Where Your Videos Reach Supporters

Your donation page is often the most valuable place for a video. People there are already deciding whether to give.

On YouTube, eligible nonprofits can join the YouTube Nonprofit Program through Google for Nonprofits. It adds features such as cards that link to your donation page. Google Ad Grants gives eligible organizations free search ad credit each month. Those are text ads, not video ads, but they can send searchers to a page that features your video. Our nonprofit PPC service can manage those grants.

Most email apps will not play video inside the message. We create a thumbnail with a play button that links to the video, and our nonprofit email marketing service can build the send. For Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, we cut vertical versions with captions, since many people scroll with the sound off. Our social media video service handles those cuts.

05

Nonprofit Budgets and What We Report

Single videos get a fixed quote in writing, and monthly video plans start at $1,000 a month.

Cost depends on the number of stories, how much footage there is to review and the number of interviews, plus any animation for charts or program data. If a grant funds the work, we provide an itemized quote you can attach to the budget.

We will not promise a viral video or a set amount raised. We report what we can measure: views, watch time, clicks to your donation page and gifts tied to tracked links or campaign codes. Our testimonial video service handles much of this work, and event footage you capture can become a recap. See all our video production services.

It depends on the number of stories, locations and finished videos. A single interview-based video costs less than a multi-story video with animation. We quote in writing, with every deliverable listed.

Yes. We can guide your staff to film without faces, use voice-only interviews and blur identifying details in the edit. We agree on the approach with your program staff before anyone films.

You own the final videos, and by agreement the raw footage too. We put this in writing before we start. That way you can reuse clips in grant reports, social posts and future appeals.

Usually, yes, and real people often come across as more believable. We coach them over a video call before filming and keep interviews relaxed. Everyone signs a release first.

Plan backward from the date your campaign launches. We set footage, review and delivery dates in the quote. Starting early also lets your staff film programs while they are running.
