Google Ad Grants Management for Nonprofits

The Google Ads Grant for nonprofits gives eligible organizations up to $10,000 a month in search ads on Google, at no cost. Many groups get approved, then struggle to spend it well or lose it over a missed rule. We help you apply, build a compliant account, and use the grant to reach donors, volunteers, and the people you serve.

Key takeaways

  • Grant accounts must hold a monthly click-through rate floor, so we check compliance every month instead of waiting for a suspension notice.
  • Each campaign has one job, such as donations, volunteers or program services, and reports on the conversion it was built for.
  • A small paid account can cover what the grant cannot, like YouTube or remarketing, though you never have to spend to keep the grant.
01

Who Qualifies for a Google Ads Grant Nonprofit Account

In the US, you need current 501(c)(3) status and an approved Google for Nonprofits account. You also agree to Google's required statements on nondiscrimination and on how donations are used. Your website must be secure, load properly, and have real content about your mission and programs.

Some organizations cannot join the program. These include government entities, hospitals and medical groups, and schools, colleges, and universities. Google has separate programs for some of these.

We check your eligibility before you apply and help fix website issues that would block approval. Churches and faith-based groups can see our church PPC page for how a grant fits their outreach. Google makes the final decision.

02

Grant Rules That Cause Most Suspensions

Grant accounts follow stricter rules than paid accounts. Breaking them can lead to suspension, so we check compliance every month.

  • Click-Through Rate

The account must keep at least a 5% click-through rate each month. Two months in a row below that can lead to deactivation.

  • Keyword Quality

Keywords with a Quality Score of 1 or 2 are not allowed. Single-word keywords and very generic phrases are also restricted, with a few exceptions.

  • Account Structure

Each campaign needs at least two ad groups with at least two ads each, and the account needs sitelinks.

  • Conversion Tracking

You must track meaningful conversions, such as donations, sign-ups, or volunteer forms, not just page views.

  • Bidding Limits

Manual bids are capped at $2 per click. Using the Maximize Conversions strategy lifts that cap, which matters for competitive topics.

  • Annual Survey

Google asks grantees to complete a program survey each year. Skipping it can put the grant at risk.

03

Campaigns We Build Around Your Mission

A grant account works best when each campaign has one job. We usually build campaigns for program services, volunteer recruiting, donations, events, and education on your cause.

Service campaigns reach people searching for help you provide, such as food assistance, legal aid, or support groups in your area. Volunteer campaigns target searches like volunteer opportunities near me. Donation campaigns focus on people already searching to give to your type of cause.

We write content-rich keyword themes that pass the grant's quality rules, and we send each ad to a page built for that action. Every campaign reports on the conversion it was built for.

04

Paid Google Ads for Nonprofit Goals the Grant Cannot Reach

The grant covers text ads on Google Search only. It does not cover YouTube, display, or remarketing. Some highly competitive fundraising searches are also hard to win with grant limits.

Many nonprofits run a small paid account alongside the grant. Paid ads can run year-end giving campaigns in November and December, remarketing to past visitors, and YouTube video for awareness. See our remarketing and retargeting and YouTube ads services. For Facebook and Instagram fundraising, see our nonprofit social media ads page. For organic posts around the giving calendar, see our nonprofit social media marketing page.

You are not required to spend anything to keep the grant. We only suggest paid ads when the numbers make sense for your budget.

05

What Nonprofit Google Ads Support Costs

The ad spend is free under the grant, but setup and ongoing management take time. Grant setup is quoted after the free growth audit, and monthly management starts at $1,000 a month. Paid accounts run alongside the grant are quoted separately.

Cost depends on the number of programs and locations, how much landing page work your site needs, and whether you also run paid ads.

We cannot guarantee approval or that the account will spend the full $10,000 each month. Spend depends on how many people search for your topics. See all our PPC management services.

FAQ

Nonprofit PPC & Ad Grants Questions, Answered

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Ask us anything else on the free audit call.

Yes. Google provides the ad spend at no cost to eligible nonprofits. You pay only for any outside help with setup and management, plus any paid ads you choose to run.

Yes. Donation pages are allowed, and fundraising is a common goal. Ads must link to your own site, and the content must relate to your mission.

Google will tell you which rule was broken. You fix the issue, such as raising click-through rate or removing low-quality keywords, then request reinstatement. We handle the fixes and the request.

No. Google Ad Grants covers text ads on Google Search only. YouTube offers a separate nonprofit program with other benefits, and paid ads can cover display and video.

Limited search demand for their topics, low bid caps, and keyword rules all restrict spend. Smart bidding, broader content themes, and more landing pages usually help. Some causes will still have a natural ceiling.
