Graphic Design Pricing and Monthly Plans
Ask five designers for a quote and you can get five wildly different numbers for what sounds like the same job. Graphic design pricing only makes sense once you know what is actually being priced: the hours, the thinking, the formats and the back and forth. This page explains how we charge and what pushes the cost up or down.
- Free 30-minute growth audit, no obligation
- Fixed quote in writing before work starts
- Reply to every request within 24 hours
Key takeaways
- Defined projects get a fixed quote in writing, while ongoing work sits on a monthly plan.
- Volume of formats, original concepting and approval chains drive cost more than the type of asset.
- Printing, stock licenses, software and ad spend are paid separately from the design fee.
Why Design Quotes Swing so Widely
A flyer from a template marketplace and a flyer that launches a new product line share a name and little else. One reuses a layout; the other needs an idea, copy hierarchy, image sourcing, print preparation and several rounds of review with people who disagree. Quotes look inconsistent because the hidden work differs.
The practical fix is to describe the job fully before anyone prices it: where the design will appear, how many sizes, who approves it and what already exists. A clear brief is the cheapest way to lower your graphic design cost.
Project Quotes and Monthly Plans
We price design in two ways. A one-off deliverable, such as a brochure, a trade show booth graphic or a set of ad templates, gets a fixed quote in writing before we begin. You know the number, the deliverables and the revision rounds up front.
If your needs are steady, for example weekly social posts, regular ad creative and the occasional sales asset, a monthly graphic design plan fits better. Plans start at $1,000 a month, run month to month with no minimum term and end with 7 days' written notice. Some people call this a graphic design retainer, though ours does not tie you in.
What Moves the Price
These are the drivers we look at when scoping.
Number of Formats
One design adapted to many sizes and placements takes real time, especially for ads and social.
New Idea or Existing System
Work inside established brand rules is faster than inventing a new visual direction.
Custom Artwork
Original illustration, icons or diagrams cost more than licensed stock.
Approval Chain
More stakeholders usually means more rounds of feedback, which we scope honestly.
Production Prep
Print, packaging dielines and large-format files need careful technical setup.
Speed
Compressing a schedule means rearranging other work, and that can affect the quote.
Are Graphic Design Packages Worth It?
Fixed graphic design packages with a set number of assets look tidy, but they often fit nobody exactly. You either pay for items you never use or run out halfway through a busy month. We would rather scope the actual workload and adjust the plan as it changes.
Packaging is a good example of why. A single label can be simple, while a full range with dielines and regulatory panels is a different job; our packaging design service shows the range. If you are pricing a full identity rather than individual assets, see brand identity pricing.
What Sits Outside Our Fee
Printing, sign fabrication and merchandise are paid to your suppliers. Stock photo and font licenses, and software such as Canva or Adobe, are billed by their providers. If design feeds into paid ads, ad spend is billed separately from our fee as well. What you do get, in every case, is ownership of the final artwork and source files.
Owners watching every dollar might also read our page on graphic design for small business, and teams comparing hiring options can see how outsourced graphic design works. The graphic design service page lists what we produce.

No. Projects get a fixed price and ongoing work sits on a monthly plan, so you are never watching a clock.
The number of revision rounds is written into each quote. If a request changes the brief itself, we discuss it before doing extra work.
Yes. Many people start with one defined project and switch to a plan once they see how much ongoing work there is.
Monthly plans have no minimum term and end with 7 days' written notice. Project terms are set out in the written quote.
You do. Final files and editable sources are handed over and are yours to use with anyone.
