Digital Marketing for Financial Advisors

We provide digital marketing for financial advisors, RIAs and planning firms that want more of the right clients, not just more leads. Advice is a trust purchase. Prospects check credentials, read your site closely and often talk with a spouse before booking a meeting. Every channel we run is built for that slow, careful decision and for your compliance review.

Key takeaways

  • A clear niche, such as physicians or federal employees near retirement, comes before any channel choice.
  • Your chief compliance officer approves every ad, page and post, and a dated log of approved versions is kept.
  • Forms, calls and scheduling links connect to a CRM such as Redtail or Wealthbox to show which channels bring qualified meetings.
01

Pick a Niche Before You Pick a Channel

Broad financial advisor marketing puts you up against banks, robo-advisors and national firms with far larger budgets. A clear niche changes that. Physicians, tech employees with equity compensation, business owners planning an exit, federal employees near retirement and recent widows each have specific questions. Each group also gathers in specific places online.

Your site should say plainly who you serve, how you charge and whether you have an asset minimum. Being clear about fees and minimums lowers inquiry volume, but it saves you hours of meetings with poor fits. Once the niche is clear, choosing channels gets much easier.

02

Financial Advisor Marketing Services, Piece by Piece

Most firms need a few of these, not all of them at once.

  • Positioning and Website

Clear pages on who you serve, your process, fee model and what a first meeting covers, written for your ideal client rather than for other advisors.

  • Search Visibility

Local and niche search, such as fee-only planner plus your city or retirement planning for teachers in your state.

  • Paid Search and LinkedIn

Ads on narrow, high-intent terms and LinkedIn campaigns by profession, with landing pages your compliance officer has approved.

  • Newsletter and Nurture Email

Most prospects are not ready to meet on day one. A regular, useful email keeps you in mind until they are.

  • Webinars and Guides

Educational sessions on topics such as Social Security timing or equity compensation, which attract people already thinking about advice.

03

What SEC, FINRA and State Rules Mean for Your Ads

SEC-registered advisers follow the SEC Marketing Rule, Rule 206(4)-1. It allows testimonials, endorsements and third-party ratings only with required disclosures and oversight. It also sets conditions for performance advertising, such as showing net returns alongside gross returns. Broker-dealer representatives follow FINRA Rule 2210, which requires principal approval of many retail communications before use. State-registered advisers follow their state securities regulator.

Recordkeeping matters as much as approval. Firms must keep copies of ads, web pages and many social posts. Many use archiving tools such as Smarsh or Global Relay. If you work through a broker-dealer, it may limit which platforms and tools you can use.

Ad platforms add their own rules. Meta's special ad category rules can apply to some financial offers and limit targeting choices. We check the category for each campaign before launch. We do not give compliance advice. Your chief compliance officer approves every ad, page and post, and we keep a dated log of approved versions.

04

Measuring a Sales Cycle That Runs for Months

Advisor marketing rarely pays off in a week. A prospect may read your newsletter for a year before booking a call. So we measure the steps along the way: discovery meetings booked, meetings with prospects who meet your minimum, new clients, and assets or fees if you choose to share them.

We connect forms, calls and scheduling links to your CRM, such as Redtail, Wealthbox or Salesforce. You mark which prospects were a fit. Our marketing analytics setup then shows which channels bring qualified meetings, not just names.

05

Choosing a Financial Advisor Marketing Firm

Ask any financial advisor marketing company three questions. Who writes your content, and do they know the compliance rules? Do you own the accounts, site and email list? How do they report on qualified meetings rather than clicks? A good financial advisor marketing agency answers all three plainly.

Our programs start at $1,000 a month, with ad spend billed separately. Cost depends on how many channels you need, content volume and how many review rounds compliance requires.

We will not promise a set number of new clients, a set amount of new assets or a fixed cost per meeting. Financial advisor online marketing works over months, and closing depends on your meetings. For larger firms with multiple advisors, see our wealth management marketing page. This work is part of our full digital marketing agency services. Estate planning law practices can see our estate planning marketing page.

FAQ

Financial Advisor Marketing Questions, Answered

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Ask us anything else on the free audit call.

SEC-registered advisers can, under the Marketing Rule, if they include the required disclosures and oversight. Broker-dealer representatives follow FINRA's own conditions. Either way, your compliance officer decides what runs.

Both. Advisors at broker-dealers usually need home office approval and may be limited to certain platforms. We build the plan within those limits from the start.

Purchased leads are often shared with several advisors and vary in quality. Your own marketing builds an audience that knows your firm. Many advisors use both for a while and compare results.

Meeting requests from paid campaigns can start soon after launch, though we cannot promise when. Search, content and email usually take several months to build. New clients follow your normal sales cycle, which can be long.

That depends on your firm's policies and registration. Many firms pre-approve a library of posts and review new content in batches. We work to whatever process your compliance officer sets.
